Description
The DIGITRANS 2-wire loop powered radio frequency probe was developed for control of brix of massecuites and liquors in raw or beet sugar factories where the use of the more sophisticated DIGITAL R.F. PROBES cannot be justified.
The two-wire transmitter will provide superior measurements to a conductivity transmitter since it responds to capacitive as well as resistance changes in the measurement medium and therefore is more responsive to changes in crystal content. Also, like other R.F. probes, measurements are less affected by electrode fouling than conductivity probes.
Although the 2-wire probes will provide measurements in high purity refinery massecuites or liquors this is not normally recommended. DIGITRANS DIGITAL R.F. PROBES will provide more accurate measurements in those applications as they can be calibrated to compensate for variations in ash.
The DIGITRANS loop powered probe is identical in appearance to the DIGITAL probe, but is self-contained.
The electronics are mounted on a single printed circuit board housed in the head of the probe. The circuitry is encapsulated in resin to provide protection against vibration and moisture. Calibration is carried out in the workshop using a calibrator to simulate low and high brix values, and a two point calibration is carried out by adjusting 20 turn zero and span potentiometers to set 4mA and 20 mA. This procedure takes only a few minutes.
