Pterygium
A pterygium is a triangular-shaped growth of fleshy tissue on the white of the eye.
This growth may remain small or grow large enough to extend over the cornea and interfere with vision.
It is unclear what causes pterygia to develop, but Ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun is believed to be a factor as well as other factors like dry eye and environmental elements such as wind and dust.
Treatment
A simple, safe, painless operation with anesthetic eyedrops can be performed to remove it as well as beta-radiation to prevent the pterygium from growing back again.
